Sammo Hung had a brief scene at the beginning sparring with Bruce.īruce Lee is incredibly fast and usually slows his moves down for the camera, but in one scene he goes at full speed and it looked like one move, but if you slow it down you can see it’s several. He often played the bad guy the hero fights to show his ability but I always find him interesting to watch. Bolo Yeung picked up his stage name from this film. Sek Kin, who was around 70 years old when the film opened seemed to take great delight in his villainous role and fought with vigor. I would have preferred more dialogue from Bruce Lee and the charismatic Jim Kelly (who was a real karate champion). Sadly, John Saxon has most of the dialogue and while he is engaging enough, his fighting skills are sorely lacking. Jim Kelly’s character is there because he likes to fight and win. John Saxon plays an American guy in deep debt looking for a score at the tournament.

Bruce is headed there to join the tournament where the Big Bad looks for new recruits and new victims. The bad guy’s lair is on an island of course, with traps and lots of minions. Bruce works with the Hong Kong police to bring down this evil drug lord who had a hand in the death of his sister. No, complete with a villain having a metal hand who carries around a white cat. It helps when watching this movie to remember that it was a joint Hong Kong/USA production and in many ways the cast was an international ensemble. Lee wanted to use the film as a vehicle for expressing what he saw as the beauty of his Chinese culture, rather than it being just another action film. Bruce Lee directed the film's opening Shaolin Monastery fight sequence.

The finished version of the film was not significantly different from the original screenplay. The portly Hung is shown fighting Lee in the opening sequence of the movie and Chan shows up as a henchman when Lee is discovered inside Han's underground lair. This was arguably instrumental in the trio's further association with Golden Harvest studios, which later launched their careers. The film is largely set in Hong Kong.Īmong the stuntmen for the film were members of the Seven Little Fortunes, including Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. Enter the Dragon was the first Chinese martial arts film to have been produced by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Bros., and was produced in association with Lee's Concord Production Inc. Often considered one of the greatest martial arts films of all time, in 2004, Enter the Dragon was deemed "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant" in the United States and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The film was first released on 26 July 1973 in Hong Kong, six days after Lee's death. This was Bruce Lee's final film appearance (footage was shot and used in what became Game of Death) before his death on 20 July 1973, at the age of 32.
